Food Trailer Sizes Explained: 330cm to 800cm — Which Size Do You Actually Need?

Buy too small and you will fight your own kitchen every service. Buy too big and you pay for space you cannot fill, plus a towing vehicle you may not own. After building trailers from 280cm to 800cm for every kind of street food business, here is how we advise buyers to choose.

        330cm: the one-person business

A 330cm trailer comfortably runs coffee, ice cream, crepes or drinks. Fits an espresso machine, under-counter fridge, small sink set and a generator box. One operator can run the whole service. This is the size we recommend for market stalls and first-time owners testing a concept.

        480–580cm: the professional standard

This is where most serious food businesses land. A 480cm trailer takes a full hot line — griddle, fryers, extraction hood — plus prep space and a prep fridge. At 580cm you add a second work zone, so two people can work without colliding. Burgers, fried chicken, pizza, full coffee menus: all realistic.

        680–800cm: event and bar platforms

Above 680cm you are building a mobile restaurant or bar: draft beer towers, walk-in style refrigeration, dishwashing zones, staff of three or more. These units trade at festivals, weddings and corporate events where the higher ticket prices pay for the extra size.

Three practical checks before you decide

        • Your tow vehicle: 480cm+ trailers typically weigh 1,800–2,600 kg loaded — check towing capacity and licence limits.
        • Your pitch: measure the actual market and event pitches you will use. A 800cm trailer is worthless where the biggest pitch fits 6m.
        • Your menu growth: choose the size for the menu you will run in year two, not day one — extending electrical and gas lines later is cheap, buying a second trailer is not.

        FAQ

        • What is the most popular food trailer size? 480–580cm is the sweet spot for most buyers: enough space for a full hot kitchen and two staff, while remaining towable by a regular 3.5t vehicle.
        • How wide is a food trailer? Most food trailers are 200–250cm wide including the chassis; heights range 250–290cm with roof equipment. Always confirm transport height for ferry and bridge restrictions.
        • Does a bigger trailer need a commercial licence? In many countries a 3,500kg trailer can still be towed on a standard car licence; heavier combinations may require a BE/C1 category. Check your national rules before ordering.
